Tokyo is back to its 100+ cases a day level with 112 cases being reported today as more number of tests were conducted compared to the weekend. It is almost certain now that the state of emergency will be extended beyond May 6th.

Only 39 new cases reported in Tokyo today! Of course, the scale of testing also dropped sharply during the weekend. Unless this downward trend holds for the next 10 days or so, it will again be written off as a blip caused by inadequate testing. Let’s see what numbers are reported mid-week.

73 cases reported in Tokyo today, keeping up the trend of dropping numbers over the weekend. Inconsistent and inadequate testing is giving people a false sense of security. Japan desperately needs to ramp up testing.

As expected, the weekend brings a drop in cases reported with Tokyo reporting 103 new cases since the testing numbers have also dropped. It is becoming more and more clear that unless Japan drastically ramps up its testing capabilities, this pandemic will take a very long time to come under control.

Bad news as we head into the weekend here in Tokyo. After 132 cases yesterday, Tokyo reported 161 news cases today, which is a very sharp rise.
